This forum brought together business leaders, government officials, experts, scientists and representatives of international organizations — to discuss key challenges for the demographic future of Europe.
The summit program was held under the slogan “The Demographic Equation: People, Policies and Opportunities” and focused on finding solutions to strengthen the demographic sustainability of Europe. The problems of rapid aging, declining birth rates, lack of qualified personnel and difficulties faced by young families were discussed.
Speakers include European Commissioners, ministers from Croatia, Denmark, Slovenia, Malta, Hungary, Poland, as well as representatives from the World Bank, OECD, McKinsey, IKEA, DHL, Healthcare Activos, Clariane and DG SANTE of the European Commission.
«The speakers called for urgent action, because in 10-20 years the number of Europeans may decrease so much that there will not be enough funds to meet the needs of the elderly. Denmark was cited as an example in solving demographic challenges. I was also impressed by their head of the Ministry of the Elderly, Mette Kierkegaard. First, the uniqueness of having such a separate ministry and their concern not only for the problems of pensioners, but also for their emotional state. Therefore, they actively operate an “intergenerational housing” program, when young people live together with the elderly. This way they solve two problems at once: students receive cheap housing, and the elderly receive company and assistance. The variety of best European practices can be a solution to part of Ukraine's demographic challenges», - notes Antonina Soldatova, PR manager at ZDOROVI.
